She worked in London and New York before settling in LA and founding JUD.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe work starts with the traditional British knitting techniques Julia grew up with. New stitches and shapes are developed from them, and every prototype is knitted and assembled in Los Angeles. Some pieces are then produced in Peru with a small group of artisan knitters, and each knitter's individual style shows in the finished piece. Others are made in Los Angeles on hand flat knitting machines. The process is manual and slower than industrial knitting, with each row knitted individually.
